INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The Indian River County School Board has a packed schedule Tuesday, which includes second interviews of its two finalists for Schools Superintendent.
After the two interviews, a special round table discussion, and the regularly scheduled board meeting, the School Board could decide who it wants to replace retiring Superintendent Dr. Harry La Cava. The School Board interviewed six candidates earlier this month and narrowed the field to two – Indian River County’s Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Dr. Fran Adams and Palm Beach County Area Superintendent Mr. E. Wayne Gent.
The School Board was expected to travel to Gent’s area Tuesday morning to visit him in his office and tour a school. The purpose of the site visit was to further interview Gent as well as observe how he relates with his staff and the school’s faculty and students.
Later in the day, the School Board was to visit with Dr. Adams at her office as well as go to one of the district’s schools with her for the same reasons.
However, as of Monday afternoon, the site visits had been canceled, replaced with interviews at the School Board Chambers in Vero Beach.
After the interviews, the board is expected to hold a previously scheduled round table discussion before the 6 p.m. regular School Board meeting. Following the meeting, the board will discuss the two finalists and could, at that time, make a decision between Adams and Gent.
On the docket for the regular meeting are the recommended approval of next year’s school calendar and an extension of charter St. Peter’s Academy’s contract.
