Richard Cole Ramer, 86, Vero Beach

Richard Cole Ramer, 86, died March 27, 2011 in Vero Beach.

Ramer was born in Rockford, Ill., and was a winter resident of Vero Beach for the last 21 years.

He graduated from West High School in Rockford, Ill.

He was the owner/operator of Rockford Potato Company and the 320 Store and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce G. Ramer, of Vero Beach; daughter, Linsey Gregg, of Rockford, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Derrick Gregg and Alexis Gregg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indian River Humane Society, 6230 77th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32967.

‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
