Betty P. Hunt, 92, Vero Beach

Betty P. Hunt, 92, of Vero Beach, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the VNA/Hospice House in Vero Beach.

Hunt was born March 3, 1919, in Montclair, N.J., and moved to Vero Beach in 1990 from Miami.

She was a secretary for Gulf American Land Corp, who were the developers of Cape Coral.

She was of the Catholic faith and had been a volunteer for many years at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Ft. Pierce.

Survivors include her son Don (Linda) Hunt, of Vero Beach; granddaughter Julie (John) Slater; two great grandchildren; two grandnieces; and paternal grandparents Samuel and Bess Parker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

No services are planned locally at this time.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
