Alan Louis Duke, 85, died April 3, 2011.
He was born in East Orange, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach for 20 years.
He worked several years with Prudential in Newark, N.J.
He also worked for Sanitary Supply Co., a plumbing and heating supply business in Avon, Point Pleasant and Red Bank, N.J.
He eventually became the owner and president of the company.
He was discharged as an officer of the Navy in 1946.
He attended Dartmouth College and transferred to Swarthmore College through the Naval program and received his bachelor of science degree.
He attended Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where he received a master’s degree.
He was a governor of Rumson Country Club and a director of Central Jersey Bank.
He served on the Rumson Board of Adjustment and the Rumson Borough Council.
He also was a member of Sigma Tau, an honorary engineering fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; daughters, Ellen Spears, of Fair Haven, N.J., and Gail Pratt, of Oneida, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
No services are scheduled.
