May Pops Concert to feature A Spring Serenade

VERO BEACH — A Spring Serenade is the theme for this year’s 22nd annual May Pops concert being held on Sunday, May 1, on the Polo Grounds at Windsor to benefit the Indian River Medical Center Foundation. The Brevard Symphony Orchestra conducted by Christopher Confessore and guest soloist Doug LaBrecque will bring to life love songs from a variety of Broadway musicals.

Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. Lawn tickets are available for $25 ($30 at the gate) and VIP tickets are $200, which includes preferred parking and a cocktail reception prior to the concert catered by Quail Valley River Club.

In addition, private cabanas with seating for 10 to 12 people are available. Children under 12 are admitted free to the lawn area only.

This year’s sound system has been enhanced to provide all attendees with a quality concert throughout the polo field.

Soloist LaBrecque is one of the most prolific concert singers of his generation. Known for his great versatility and vocal artistry he has performed with more than 150 symphony orchestras including some of the world’s finest.

He thrilled theatre audiences as The Phantom and Raoul in the Toronto production of The Phantom of the Opera and has starred on Broadway as Ravenal in the revival of Showboat, a role he also performed in Canada and Chicago. He was featured in Oscar Hammerstein’s 100th Birthday Celebration on Broadway at The Gershwin Theatre, and toured nationally with Les Miserables.

Regionally LaBrecque has performed leading roles in Candide, A Chorus Line, Man of La Mancha and others. Early in his career he starred alongside Broadway legends Elaine Stritch, Betty Comden, Adolphe Green and opera star Jessye Norman.

International engagements have included the Korean National Symphony, Shanghai Radio Orchestra, Vancouver and Calgary Symphonies, Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony, and the Israel Philharmonic. He recently appeared in Italy as the guest soloist in an all Bernstein concert and performed two concerts in The Czech Republic.

LaBrecque made his Carnegie Hall and Boston Pops debut in 2007 and has been instrumental in developing a variety of pops programs for symphonies across America.
