David L. “Dave” Drury, 71, died on March 19, 2011, at the Hospice House in Vero Beach, with his wife of 47 years, Debbie, at his side.
Survivors include his son David (Caris), of Glen Ridge, N.J.; daughter Kate Verni (Chris), of Larchmont, N.Y.; five grandchildren Will, Zoe, Lauren, Nick, and Alex.
Drury was born in Evansville, Ind., the only child of Asa and Naomi Drury and grew up in Michigan, graduating from Bloomfield Hills High School.
He received his BA (’61) and MBA (’63) from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
While a student at Michigan, Drury met Debbie and they were married on June 13, 1964.
He was in the Army Reserves and spent a year on active duty as a result of the Berlin Wall Crisis.
He spent his entire career at General Motors – starting in Dayton, Ohio with Frigidaire, working and living in Ann Arbor, Paris, and Buffalo, retiring in 1999 as director of North American Operations at Delphi Harrison Thermal Systems.
He was very active in both charitable and community activities.
His many activities included being the president of the Eastern Niagara United Way, board member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and member of the Board of Governors at The Moorings Club in Vero.
After retiring, Dave and Debbie moved to Vero Beach.
A celebration of Drury ‘s life will be held at The Moorings Club in Vero Beach on Sunday March 27 at 3 p.m.
Celebratory attire is encouraged.
