William B. “Bill” McKallip, 85, Vero Beach

William B. “Bill” McKallip, 85, died March 9, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He was born in Leechburg, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach since 1981, coming from New York.

He served in the Army Air Forces in World War II and was a gunner on a B-29, flying 25 missions over Japan.

He taught high school business.

He was a Red Cross swimming instructor for 25 years in East Hampton, N.Y., and was a lifeguard for several years.

He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of an antique car club.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Phyllis; daughter, Susan Joy McKallip, of Vero Beach; and son, Scott Andrew McKallip, of East Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, William McKallip Jr.; and siblings, Robert McKallip, Clara McKallip and Wayne McKallip.

Memorial contributions may be made to Abilities Resource Center, 1375 16th Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Services will be at 11 a.m. March 24 at First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach.

Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
