Gifford Invitational Step-Off to be held March 19

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Inaugural Invitational Step-Off competition to benefit the Gifford Youth Activity Center (GYAC) will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 at the Gifford Youth Activity Center Complex.

Ten step teams will vie for cash, prizes and the bragging rights to a rotating trophy.  The winner will take the trophy home, but must return next year to possibly win it again.

The event is presented by the MLK, Jr. Committee, Hi Mom Productions, the Bert Network, Wabumusic.com, the GYAC, and WJFP/WJCB.

Tickets to the event are $5 in advance; $7 at the door, and are available at the Gifford Youth Activity Center.

Participant information:

Each step team is allowed two guardians/leaders/helpers – all others must purchase a ticket.

Each step team must be in the performance venue by 5:45 p.m. on the day of competition.

All music must be on CD and labeled. Suggestive music or too suggestive step moves will result in point deductions.

Waivers must be signed for each participant; the competition is to be held harmless in case of any injuries.

All participants must show cooperation or it will cost your team, and you will be asked to leave the competition.

Steppers will be judged on appearance, originality, cooperation, professionalism, team work & crowd response.

Each team has no more than eight minutes to perform.

All decisions by the judges, who will have backgrounds in dance, music and the arts, are final.

There is a $25 per team entry fee to participate

Steppers’ order will be determined by a draw from a hat.

All Step-Off information must be received at the GYAC complex, attention Larry Staley, by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 17.
