Robert Silsbee Hunt Sr., 87, Vero Beach

Robert Silsbee Hunt Sr., 87, died March 8, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He was born in Boston and lived in Vero Beach for a year, coming from Hilton Head, S.C.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Before retirement, he worked on the Thresher-class submarines at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 25 years, where he became chief inspector.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Patricia N. Hunt; son, Robert S. Hunt Jr., of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Susan H. Lynch, of Hollywood; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.

A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Retired sheriff’s sergeant loses battle with cancer

A retired longtime sheriff's sergeant died of cancer over the weekend, officials said. James 'Jimmy' Stewart passed away overnight on Saturday in Tennessee, where he moved after retiring from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. His age was not immediately available. It was unclear if any local memorials would be held for the retired law enforcement official. "He was a very well-respected sergeant within our agency," Flowers said. "He will certainly be missed." Stewart worked for the sheriff's office from 1986 to 2011, Flowers said.
