Earl Jenkins, 86, Vero Beach

Earl Jenkins, 86, died March 7, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He was born in Winter Beach and was a lifetime resident of Vero Beach.

Before retirement, he was supervisor of the Department of Streets for the City of Vero Beach for 33 years.

He was a member of Central Assembly of God in Vero Beach and the Vero Beach Beach Buggy Club.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Eloise Jenkins, of Vero Beach; son, Larry Jenkins, of Vero Beach; daughter, Diane Powell, of Vero Beach; brothers, Ralph Jenkins, of Vero Beach and Cecil Jenkins, of Winter Beach; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. March 11 at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach with the Rev. Buddy Tipton officiating.

Burial will be at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach at a later date.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
