Emerson Center to host encore performance by Miami Beach String Quartet

VERO BEACH — The Miami Beach String Quartet’s Vero Beach performance last January earned such rave reviews; The Emerson Center knew that an encore performance would be necessary.   The invitation for a second concert was accepted by the four talented performers who will return for a special late afternoon Encore Performance, 4 p.m. at The Emerson Center on Saturday, April 2. “Our audience was enthralled with the Miami Beach String Quartet,” said Richard Armitage, coordinator for this special event. “And, frankly, the performers fell in love with our audience.  We experienced musical magic that January day in Vero Beach, and we know this encore performance will help us keep that magic alive.”

The quartet has selected two of music’s glittering jewels for the performance: Josef Haydn’s beautifully melodic Opus 64 Number 5, often called “The Lark,” and Aleksandr Borodin’s elegant Quartet Number 2, a very popular work that most of the audience will have heard before, sometimes in a popular music format.

“Everyone who joined us in January will surely want to return for the April concert,” added Armitage, “and those who missed the January event are fortunate to have a second chance to see and hear an exceptional performance by four of the most highly-regarded string musicians in the world.”

The Miami Beach String Quartet is comprised of talented musicians, all experienced soloists.

Ian Maksin has been described as “one of the most unique and gifted artists of his generation.”  This master cellist already has a reputation in Vero Beach where he plays Principal Cello for the Atlantic Classical Orchestra.  He has just returned from a string of solo engagements in Chicago, Boston, and New York.  Maksin is a Russian born native of St. Petersburg, and a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music.  He has recorded several CDs including the very popular “Solo Flight” which includes the two complete Bach “Suites for Solo Cello” among other works for cello.

Violinist Aleksandr Zhuk was born into a celebrated musical family in Moscow and started his musical studies at age six at the Gnessin School for Gifted Children.  He holds degrees from the Utrecht Conservatory and won a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.  In addition to the MBSQ, he performs with the Atlantic Classical Orchestra and with the Florida Grand Opera orchestra.

Serbian born violinist, Dina Kostic, holds degrees from Southern Methodist and Northwestern University.  In addition to the MBSQ, Kostic plays with the Atlantic Classical Orchestra, Chamber Music Palm Beach, the Florida Philharmonic, and the New World Symphony. Kostic performs regularly as a soloist and has a number of recording credits.

Chauncey Patterson, violist, studied at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the Curtis Institute.  A much sought after violist, he was Principal Viola with the Denver Symphony and the Buffalo Symphony.  He is currently Solo Violist for Florida Grand Opera, and he performs with the Atlantic Classical Orchestra.  Patterson has performed at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl.
