George Russell Loomis, 83, Vero Beach

George Russell Loomis, 83, of Vero Beach, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at his residence.

Loomis was born July 15, 1927, in Providence, R.I.

He had been a full-time resident of Vero Beach since 2000, coming from Rhode Island.

He worked as a photo-engraver and a videographer.

Loomis was a member of Saint John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.

Loomis was a member of the Order of F&A Masons in RI and FL, the Rhode Island Shrine in Cranston, RI, the Scottish Rite, and was very active within the Village Green housing community.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Amy; daughters, Patricia Fleming (Jim), of Coventry, R.I., Dale Hopkins (Steve), of Gloucester, R.I., Vicki Suplizio (Mark), of Sebastian, and Lynn Moss (Mike), of Vero Beach; sisters, Phyllis Curti, of Hudson, Janet Sousa, of Brooksville; grandson, Jason Welcker, of Boston, Mass.; granddaughters, Dr. Kelly Welcker Krause, of Bellevue, Shawn Moss McKinny, of Vero Beach and Shelly Moss Greer, of Sebring; seven other grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence & Iva, and brother, Lawrence E. Loomis.

A visitation will take place from 1-2 p.m., with a service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held at St. John Of The Cross Catholic Church on Monday, Feb., 28, 2011, at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at a later date at Saint Ann’s Cemetery in Cranston, R.I.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County located at 2300 5th Ave, Suite 150, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida.
