INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU Lecture Series presents John Reed speaking about Deep Water Coral Reefs – Oases of the Ocean: Recent Discoveries and Conservation, on Wednesday, March 2. Reed’s research has been instrumental in the establishment of marine protected areas for deep-sea corals. He will show video from the Johnson-Sea-Link submersibles and the Jason remotely operated vehicle, including highlights of research on oil spill effects on deep reefs in the Gulf of Mexico and discovery of nearly 100 miles of deep sea reefs just off Florida’s coast.
The winter lecture series is presented every Wednesday (January 12 – March 23) at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. An opportunity to meet the speaker, appetizer buffet and cash bar follow the presentation.
