VERO BEACH — The Mu Alpha Theta math club at Saint Edward’s School displayed that they can match and exceed the best and the brightest math students from around the State of Florida. Saint Edward’s students brought nine trophies home from Oviedo High School’s Regional math competition on Saturday. Griffin Fairchok and Kaden Diniz, both of Vero Beach overcame the huge disadvantage of missing two teammates to take 5th place in Algebra 1 against the other four-person teams from throughout central Florida.
Colton Warren and Ella Merrill of Vero Beach teamed up with Daniel Mullen of Vero Beach and Wesley Campbell of Sebastian to claim 4th place in Team Geometry. Daniel Mullen was awarded an individual placement of 7th place in Geometry.
Bai Xue of China and Dequan Zhang of Fort Pierce paired with Olivia Blakeman and Junior August Restle, both of Vero Beach, to take the 4th place Algebra 2 team trophy.
Zhitao Liu of China, Ethan Klein of Port Saint Lucie, Linda Yang of Fort Pierce and Abby Mattern of Vero Beach beat out long-time rival Vero Beach High School to take 2nd place in PreCalculus. In addition the Saint Edward’s students claimed 3 individual prizes in Pre-Calculus- Zhitaou Liu took 2nd place, Ethan Klein took 5th place and Linda Yang earned an 11th place trophy.
wrapped it up by winning the 5th place sweepstakes award, beating out a number of larger schools across the central Florida region.
