William “Bill” James Valyo, 80, died Feb. 8, 2011, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
He was born in Trenton, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach since 1992, coming from Bucks County, Pa.
He was a professional entertainment promoter and a sports and social columnist for the Sebastian Sun and the Press Journal.
He was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
He was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus chapter Our Lady of the Rosary 13153, served as chairman of the St. John of the Cross Building Committee, and was a member of the Trenton Scroths American Legion Baseball World Championship team of 1948.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Miriam Valyo, of Vero Beach; daughters, Stephanie Hainsfurther, Nancy Haley and Amy Baker; son, Bill Valyo; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Valyo; four brothers; and three sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John of the Cross Catholic Church Building Fund, 7590 26th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 12 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Trenton, N.J., at a future date. Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
