INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — On Friday, January 28, local officials, hoteliers and sports representatives participated in a familiarization tour of all county sport and recreational venues. The tour was organized by The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Division’s Sports Committee.
“The purpose was to provide an understanding of Indian River County as a highly desirable destination for sporting events and the economic impact they have on the community,” said Susan Hunt, the Chamber’s Tourism Director.
Jonathan Starratt, General Manager at Capt Hiram’s Resort in Sebastian chairs the Chamber’s Sports Committee.
“Sports marketing is instrumental in creating more business for our community. Sporting events held at our diverse venues bring guests into our hotels and restaurants and generate significant, traceable revenues within Indian River County,” noted Starratt
The group’s itinerary included a tour of Indian River County’s sports venues, visiting places such as: Vero Beach Sports Village, Sandridge Golf Course, Hobart Soccer Complex, the Fairgrounds, Shooting Range and the North County Aquatics Center. The tour ended at Captain Hiram’s Resort with presentations and a Q & A session.
According to Sheryl Koenes, General Manager of Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and a member of the Indian River County Tourism Developments Council, “The Sports FAM was a great way to educate us regarding the many sports venues and the sports market! In talking to the attendees, they learned so much from the experience. I know I did.”
