Alan Stuart Garretson, 84, of Vero Beach, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center.
He was born May 8, 1926, in New Brunswick, N.J., and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1994, coming from Bay Head, N.J.
Garretson served in the submarine service in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Before retirement he was a resident and owner of a trucking company based in East Millstone, N.J.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Roberta Latham Garretson; daughters, Shelley Krauszer, of Vero Beach and Suzanne Stillman, of San Ramon, Calif.; brother, Robert F. Garretson, of Stuart; five grandchildren, J. Kristopher Krauszer, of Vero Beach, Jonathan Krauszer, of New York City, N.Y., Jacob Alan Krauszer, of Vero Beach, Garrett Stillman, of San Francisco, Calif., and Laura Stillman, of San Ramon, Calif., and two great grandchildren, August and Maggie Krauszer.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 12-1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, followed by a celebration service at 1 p.m. at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, Vero Beach officiated by Dr. G. Timothy Womack of First Presbyterian Church.
