Find Valentine’s romance on a weekend road trip

Valentine’s Day can be a challenging holiday to plan for, especially if you want to do something special. Restaurants are often crowded and over-priced, with few available reservation times and limited menus.

What makes the day special isn’t necessarily what you have planned, it’s that you spend the day together. Instead of the ordinary and cliche, try to find something different to impress your Valentine: Take a weekend road trip.

The beauty of a road trip is that you can go almost anywhere, from a big city with luxury hotels, five-star restaurants or spas, to small out-of-the way towns with a cozy bed-and-breakfast and plenty of opportunities to relax.

What to pack?

Depending on where you’re going, you’ll need to have gear for the road, like an upbeat compilation of music for the car ride or romantic music for where you’re staying. Scented candles are also a nice romantic touch for when you arrive.

However, nothing ends a romantic trip quicker than getting lost and not having proper directions to where you’re going. Have a map or GPS device with you in the car.

If the weather is nice enough for a picnic, bring a blanket and picnic basket with a wine bottle, opener, cheese and crackers. Or better yet, you can stop and shop at a local grocery store and find out great sightseeing places to check out from the locals.

Make it memorable

The weekend will go fast, so make sure you remember to bring a camera to capture the memories. Photos from a fun weekend away are always good to frame or make an album from.

Find a great gift

Your weekend trip offers plenty of romantic possibilities, which is important for Valentine’s Day weekend. Also important is making sure you have a great gift. One of the more popular gifts to give your valentine is an engagement ring, or if you’re already married or engaged, some other piece of beautiful jewelry. Whichever route you go, one really important key is to make sure you have jewelry insurance to protect your gift from theft – particularly if the cost of the item is high.

Whatever type of getaway you plan, have a great time and enjoy the romance and the company of your loved on Valentine’s Day.
