Jack Leonard Shafer, 91, Vero Beach

Jack Leonard Shafer, 91, died Jan. 22, 2011, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

He was born in Davenport, Iowa and lived in Vero Beach for 24 years, coming from the Turks and Caicos Islands, British West Indies.

Shafer received his bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Shafer was a former chairman of the board of Borg-Warner Chemical, Parkersburg, West Virginia.

He was a member of Society of Magicians.

Survivors include his son James Shafer (Sharon), of the Turks and Caicos Islands; daughter, Marilyn Thatcher (Clive), of Bermuda; grandsons, James Thatcher, of Bermuda, Jack Shafer, of Montgomery, Texas; granddaughters, Rinear Coulter, of Fort Lauderdale, Annie Graves, of Montgomery, Texas; and great-grandchildren Ally, Jack, Jake, Zack, all of Montgomery Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Marjorie.
