Brevard Symphony Orchestra POPS Concert Jan. 16

VERO BEACH — The second concert in the Indian River Symphonic Association’s 2010-2011 season will take place on Sunday, January 16 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Church of Vero Beach. Under the direction of Maestro Christopher Confessore, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra will present a POPS program, “The Music You Love”.  The orchestra will play a collection of some of the greatest melodies ever written; familiar classics by Grieg, Bizet and Brahms along with POPS favorites by Irving Berlin, Andrew Lloyd Webber, the Beatles and more. This will be an evening of magical musical memories for everyone.

Tickets are available, priced at $50 each, and may be purchased by calling 772-778-1070, or at the door.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. VBHS orchestra places in top 3 in national competition

A local high school ensemble showcased their musicianship among nine other schools around the country in a national competition in New York City, and placed in the top three, school officials said. The Vero Beach High School Philharmonic Orchestra, composed of 38 members, placed second-runner up in "The Orchestra Cup," which was held March 9 under the 2019 National School Orchestra Championships.
