INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – An elderly man reported missing over the weekend was found safe at his daughter’s home in Vero Beach.
According to authorities, the man’s family members each thought another had contacted the woman, but no one had.
It wasn’t until Sunday morning that a family member did contact the woman, who said her dad was with her.
She told detectives that her father, 85-year-old James Brown Pearce, had arrived at her home the night of Jan. 1 and stayed with her the entire time the family thought he was missing.
A Silver Alert that had been issued for Mr. Pearce was subsequently cancelled.
The search included officials in Brevard County because Mr. Pearce’s wife is at a medical facility there, authorities said.
Deputies also searched the immediate area of Mr. Pearce’s home along 24th Place SW and the businesses he is known to frequent.
Authorities did not say what prompted Mr. Pearce to go to his daughter’s home without notifying other family members.
