Mario E. Ruiz, Sr., 64, Vero Beach

Mario E. Ruiz, Sr., 64, of Vero Beach, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at his home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1946, in Puerto Rico and was a resident of Vero Beach for nine years coming from Connecticut.

Ruiz attended the Missionary Church of Christ in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Consuelo Ruiz, of Vero Beach; son Mario E. Ruiz, Jr., of Cocoa; daughter Bernice Diaz, of Vero Beach; father Juan B. Ruiz, of Puerto Rico; sisters Awilda Ruiz, of Puerto Rico and Myrna Ruiz, of Windsor Locks, Conn.; brother Saul Ruiz, of Puerto Rico; and three grandchildren, Jayda Moss, Jedidiah Ruiz and Sarah Sofia Diaz.

The family will receive friends, 1-3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Seawinds Funeral Chapel, with service at 3 p.m. with Josias Andujar officiating.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
