Doris Hayes, 88, of Vero Beach, died Dec. 27 at VNA Hospice in Vero Beach.
She was born July 13, 1922 in Chattanooga, Tenn., but lived her adult life on the Treasure Coast.
She graduated from Grady School of Nursing in Atlanta.
She was employed by two prominent physicians in the area as well as working in the emergency department at IRMH for several years before retirement.
Doris and her husband Garland, who preceded her fourteen years earlier, were among the early group of YAGO’s (Young Adults Growing Older) at the 1st Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her sister, Charlotte Isbill, of Altamonte Springs; sons, Steve Hayes and Mike Hayes, both of Vero Beach, Rusty Hayes, of Escondido, Calif.; daughter, Janet Lund, of Kissimmee; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a never-ending list of friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Garland.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Dec. 30 at the Isles of Vero (1700 Waterford Drive) with the Rev. Clint Henley of Chattanooga presiding.
