Jessie Mae Carter, 82, died Dec. 18, 2010, at her home.
She was born in Jonestown, Miss., and lived in Indian River County for 35 years.
She was a retired midwife.
Survivors include her sons, Tommy Dabney and Simmie Black, both of Memphis, Tenn., Benjamin Lewis Carter, of Los Angeles and William C. Watson, of Vero Beach; daughters, Mary Ola Hood, of Memphis and Mary Alice Carter and Pearl Watson, both of Vero Beach; brother, Tecumseh Black Jr., of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Lonnie Mae Tynes, of Memphis; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Henry Carter Jr.; daughter, Viola Hood, brothers, Peter Black, Simmie Black and Obediha Black; and sisters, Mary Pearl Tynes, Eddie B. Black and Annie Mae Black.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 26 at Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will be at noon Dec. 27 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Gifford.
Burial will follow in Gifford Cemetery, Gifford.
