Winifred A. Thompson, 76, Vero Beach

Winifred A. Thompson, 76, died Dec. 13, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

She was born in Phoenixville, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach since 2007.

She graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1953.

Survivors include her husband, Samuel; daughters, Cheryl Thompson, of Royersford, Pa., Diane Haschke, of Clayton, N.C., and Karen Farrell, of Mattapoisett, Mass.; brother, John Kathman, of Pottstown, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 22 at Devlin-Rosmos-Kepp Funeral Home, Phoenixville, with the Rev. John J. Newns officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.

Local arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.

Family, friends, marines honor ‘protector, hometown hero’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Frank Strahorn was already considered a hero by his family, friends and marine brothers and sisters because of his military service around the world. Then, on June 19, the 34-year-old became a "hometown hero" after he was fatally shot while helping others escape a gunman carrying an AK-47 assault rifle at a Sebastian pizzeria.
