VERO BEACH — The Artists Guild Gallery is honored to present “The Maestro!” oil paintings by Guest Artist Ivo David, on display in the Gallery throughout the month of January. An Opening Reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held Friday, January 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. Italian-born, second-generation artist Ivo David will be presenting his stunning collection of masterful and very colorful paintings in oil. He brings a lifetime of experience to his craft, with all his struggles, hardships and achievements. While just a boy in Italy, Ivo’s father, who was a fine artist himself, would have him mix colors for painting. He decided early on that art was to be his life’s work. From childhood experiences living for several years in monasteries, to his emigration to America, Ivo David’s art has been a reflection of his passion and of his life.
Degreed at the Art School at The Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, and mentored by numerous renowned artists of contemporary Italy, Ivo’s work has also been greatly influenced by the European masters of old. Constantly challenging the accepted norms, he sought to develop a style all his own, yet still be sensitive to the realism he had seen in Europe’s great museums. In 1956 he founded “Fusionism,” a name which he uses to describe his unique form of art. “Fusionism,” Ivo says, “is the foundation of true art.
Using a palette sizzling with color, Ivo covers every inch of his canvas with a joyous mix of light, color and movement. Impasto swirls creep into raised dabs of color, blending into smoothly brushed-on mellow areas, allowing a restful place for the eye. At first glance his work is alive with what seems like randomly-placed colored curves and dabbles of paint; however at second glance one sees that it is a carefully orchestrated blending of pigment and shapes, precisely engineered and planned with the deliberate strokes of a “Maestro!”
Ivo David will be one of the Featured Artists at the Backus Gallery’s “Fine Tuned Exhibition” in Fort Pierce March 30 to April 16, and his studio and work was showcased as part of the Vero Beach Art Club’s “Art Trail” on December 4. His work has appeared in many prominent publications, and a lengthy article on Ivo was published in the November issue of Vero Beach Magazine, with his fabulous art gracing the cover.
Numerous awards are to his credit from prestigious exhibitions around the world, and his work resides in many private, corporate and public collections in the U.S.A. and abroad. Permanent collections include the Bellonzi’s Museum, “Casa Dante” in Pescara, Italy. Ivo divides his time between Vero Beach and Italy, and he is a member of the Cultural Council of Indian River County, the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Vero Beach Art Club.
New works by other Gallery Artists and Consignors will also be on display in a vast array of styles and mediums, including sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, pottery, glass and prints.
The Gallery, located at 1974 14th Avenue in Vero Beach, is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and by special appointment.
