Harris Ravetto, 92, Vero Beach

Harris Ravetto, 92, of Vero Beach, died Dec. 9, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

Born in Albany, N.Y., he had been a resident of Vero Beach for 33 years, coming from Somers, N.Y.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the 749th Tank Battalion in Dayton, Ohio.

He was also a member Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Olga Ravetto, of Vero Beach; two sons, John E. Ravetto, of Patterson, N.Y., and Peter H. Ravetto, of Rowayton, Conn.; one brother, Emil Ravetto, of Somers, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Services and Interment will be at a later date in Somers, N.Y.

Contributions as a memorial may be made to Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
