Jan Andrew Koht, 86, Vero Beach

Jan Andrew Koht, 86, died Nov. 28, 2010, in Vero Beach.

He was born near the North Pole in Narvik, Norway and came to the U.S. in 1970 from Oslo, Norway where he directed a marketing consulting firm and was a psychologist for the Department for Children and Families.

He was a 30-year resident of Vero Beach coming from Princeton, N.J. where he served as a school psychologist with the Princeton Regional School District.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s in psychology from the University of Munich in Germany and pursued graduate studies in social psychology at Rutgers University in N.J.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for a number of years with long-term nursing home residents in Vero Beach and Fort Pierce under a program co-sponsored by nursing homes and the State of Florida, that was designed to provide emotional and social support to elderly residents during a difficult period in their lives.

His survivors include his companion of 35 years, Brenda Brandt; his three sons, Lars Andrew Koht, of Vero Beach, Detlev Kuht and Clemens-Olaf Kuht, of Munich, Germany; his sister Grette”Lolla” Wittmann, of Waldfischebach, Germany, and brother Sven Ivar Koht of Oslo, Norway; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial gathering will be held in Vero Beach at a later date. Arrangements are by Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory.
