VERO BEACH -- The Democratic Women's Club of Indian River County recently announced the winners of its Annual College and Vocational Training Scholarship awards at its membership luncheon. The Scholarship Committee which consists of Susan Sniffen, Juanita Baker, Josephine Gallo, Elsie Visel and Valerie George, makes its annual awards based on academic standing as well as extracurricular activities, career goals and a commitment to democratic ideals. The committee was impressed with the high caliber of these young women and applauds all their accomplishments, wishing them much success as they pursue their career goals and work for democratic ideals. INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - With fresh new offices and a newly-named interim director, the Cultural Council of Indian River County suddenly finds itself facing funding cuts that could severely limit its activities in helping county arts groups. The Tourist Development Council last week recommended cutting the non-profit agency's grant request for the coming year by more than half. In another ominous sign, County Administrator Joe Baird told Vero Beach 32963 he will recommend a drastic and possible total cut in funding from the general revenue fund.
