Deck the Halls Concert Dec. 13

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Department will present their annual holiday concert; Deck the Halls, on Sunday, December 12 at 2 pm and Monday, December 13, 2010 at 7 pm in the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.

The concert will also include several traditional Hanukkah Holiday pieces as well as contemporary arrangements including My Favorite Things by the Symphonic and Jazz Bands, led by James Sammons and Page Howell. The VBHS Symphony Orchestra will perform Ice Sculptures, as well as original arrangements led by Matt Stott.  The performance will also feature the VBHS Concert and Show Choirs led by Gregory Harris with some beautiful tunes such as Joy to the World, Winter Wonderland and other carols, with Karen Wiggins as accompanist.

Deck the Halls brings together a festive celebration of warmth and joy the entire family is sure to enjoy!

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. Santa visits students at GYAC

GIFFORD — In the days leading up to Christmas, the jolly Saint Nicholas cleared up his busy schedule of gift giving to make sure students at a youth center received presents on their wish list. Saint Nicholas, better known as Santa Claus, visited youth last Thursday afternoon at Gifford Youth Achievement Center. The man in the traditional red and white outfit with a white beard was GYAC staff member Lebon Nicholas, happily providing each student with a gift. The students sung Christmas carols inside the gymnasium and the youth orchestra performed classic holiday tunes.
