SEBASTIAN — Residents within the City of Sebastian have until Nov. 30 to apply to serve on the city’s Charter Review Committee.
The Sebastian City Council will officially appoint the 15 members at the Dec. 15 council meeting.
Each council member will be allowed to appoint two members and the council, as a whole, will appoint five at-large members.
The Charter Review Committee meets every five years, and last met in 2006. That committee recommended 10 referendum questions be placed on the ballot for voter approval. All but one was adopted.
The newest committee could choose to craft changes to the city’s charter or make no recommendations at all. The members will have six months to decide.
The timetable would allow for the city council to adopt the proposed referenda before the end of August, giving the city enough time to put the questions on the ballot for the November 2011 election.
As of last week, there were only five applications for the at-large committee positions.
City Clerk Sally Maio told the Sebastian City Council that she hopes more people will step forward and apply.
Anyone interested in applying for the committee should contact Maio’s office by calling (772) 388-8214.
