SEBASTIAN — Businesses in the Sebastian area will officially kick off the holiday shopping season – not on Black Friday – but with Light Up Night on Dec. 3. And it’s not too late to register.
The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce will continue registering participating businesses until 5 p.m. Wednesday. At last count, 30 businesses had signed on. The 22nd annual event serves as a customer appreciation night of sorts, a time when the community is invited to visit many shops and enter drawings and receive discounts.
“Twenty-two years is quite a long time,” said Britney Faulk, organizer of the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event. “That’s because of all the businesses’ support.”
“Everyone is last minute,” Faulk said, noting that the deadline was supposed to be Monday to sign up but more keep coming in.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and, along with getting some holiday shopping done, visitors to the various stores will enjoy seeing the businesses all decked out in holiday trimmings.
As with the prior years, businesses will compete in one of four categories:
Best Traditional – Inside
Best Traditional – Outside
Best Christmas Fantasy – Inside
Best Christmas Fantasy – Outside
Anonymous judges will visit each business to evaluate the decor and later deliberate and name the winners.
The Sebastian Chamber expects to have the list and map of participating businesses available at the Chamber office on Main Street at US 1 on Friday, Dec. 3.
