VERO BEACH — Kick off the 2010 holiday season with the Indian River County Historical Society at two very special events at the Hallstrom House – a fun-filled Family Day at the Hallstrom House on Saturday, December 4 and Christmas at the Hallstrom House on Sunday, December 5 featuring a presentation by Alma Lee Loy.
On Saturday, December 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., come out for a fun-filled Family Day at the Hallstrom House, featuring children’s activities including pony rides, a mechanical bull, and face painting, and treats such as cotton candy, ice cream and hot dogs. For grown-ups, the Carriage House Marketplace offers an opportunity to shop for unique holiday gifts. Admission to Family Day is $5 per family.
Then on Sunday, December 5 enjoy Christmas at the Hallstrom House featuring Alma Lee Loy, one of Vero Beach’s best-known residents, who will recount her childhood memories of the community from 2 to 3 p.m.
A native of Vero Beach, Alma Lee grew up in a home close to downtown. As an adult, she opened the children’s clothing and gift store, Alma Lee’s Children’s Shop, a fixture in the downtown retail district from 1955 to 1997. She also served as a County Commissioner for 12 years, remains active in many civic organizations, and is deeply interested in the history of the community.
“I’m especially happy to be speaking at the Hallstrom House,” says Alma Lee, “having known Ruth Hallstrom very well.”
In addition to Alma Lee’s presentation, Christmas at the Hallstrom House on Sunday will feature tours of the historic house from 11 am to 1 pm, music from 1 to 2 pm, and refreshments following the presentation. Tickets are $15 for Historical Society members and $20 for non-members. Reservations are encouraged.
All proceeds benefit the Indian River County Historical Society, whose mission is to identify, collect and preserve county history and to provide educational opportunities with historical themes.
The Hallstrom House is located at 1723 Old Dixie Highway SW in Vero Beach, a mile south of Oslo Road.
