John R. Kennedy, died Nov. 3, 2010, at his home in Vero Beach.
He was 80 years old. He was a retired president and chief executive officer of Federal Paper Board Company and former chairman of the board of directors of Georgetown University.
He joined Federal in 1952 after graduating from Georgetown University and spent his entire career with the company, serving as CEO from 1975 to 1996.
Kennedy was born in Queens, N.Y., on Sept. 21, 1930.
His parents, John R. Kennedy Sr. and Ethel Rose Leavy Kennedy, were both children of Irish Immigrants. Kennedy’s marriage to his first wife, Joyce Willis, ended in divorce. In 1974, he married Elizabeth Spyros.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, John R. Kennedy III, of Ponte Vedra, James W. Kennedy, of Amagansett, N.Y., and Andrew Kennedy, of Edmeston, N.Y.; a daughter, Paula Kennedy Harrigan, of New Canaan, Conn.; a stepson, Nicholas L. Spyros, of Haymarket, Va.; sister, Ethel Kennedy Marran, of Vero Beach; brother, Quentin Kennedy, of Tenafly, N.J.; and nine grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th Street, Vero Beach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, November 8 at 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Iris Lane and A1A, Vero Beach.
Burial will be private at John’s Island Cemetery, Indian River Shores, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to support the leukemia research efforts of Dr. Mark Frattini.
