Leukemia & Lymphoma Rudolph Run set for Dec. 11

VERO BEACH – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invites you to participate in the Third Annual LLS Rudolph Run on Saturday, December 11 at the South County Park in Vero Beach.  Registration begins at 6 a.m. and the race starts at 7 a.m.

This 5K Run / Walk to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a flat course – ideal for runners and walkers alike. There will also be a pancake breakfast and raffles.

If you have never done a 5K before, this is the one to do!   Join the fun and help fight Blood Cancers.

Registration before the event is $20.  Registration on the day of the event is $25. Registrations are available at Runner’s Depot or on www.lls.org/pb/vero.

South Beach Park is located at the eastern end of E. Causeway Blvd. (17th St. Bridge).

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
