Harvest Block Party planned for Nov. 13

VERO BEACH — A Harvest Block Party will be held Saturday, November 13 from 11 am to 2 pm to celebrate the opening of the Harvest Thrift Center at 2746 US 1 in Vero Beach.

The party is free and open to the public, and there will be a live remote by The Breeze 93.7 FM. In addition to free hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages, there will be a bounce house, water slide and face painting for the kids, along with games and raffle prizes.

Families are encouraged to shop in the thrift center and receive a 25% discount during the festivities.

All proceeds from purchases made at the Harvest Thrift Center benefit Harvest Food & Outreach Center, a local nonprofit which strives to help families and individuals break the cycle of poverty by providing food, crisis care, and opportunities for education and employment.

Residents are welcome to bring clothing and food to donate to Harvest.  A blood mobile from the Indian River Blood Bank will be on the premises to receive blood donations.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
