Mary Ellen Shepherd Crum, 76, of Vero Beach, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at Indian River Medical Center.
Crum was born on Feb. 18, 1934, in Huntington, W.Va. and has lived in Vero Beach for nine years coming from Temple Terrace, Fla. She was a graduate of Marshall University and served as the President of Alpa Chi Omega and Chi Beta Phi Scientific Sororities while at Marshall.
After graduating she taught in the Huntington school system before teaching in the Broward County school system as a middle school math teacher in Dania.
After retirement she volunteered and was an active member of the Temple Terrace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Bob; son Daniel Shepherd Crum, of Vero Beach; daughter, Amy Hout, of Jacksonville; brother, William R. Shepherd, of Apollo Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
A life celebration memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, at McKee Botanical Gardens Education Building in Vero Beach, with Rev. Earl Morgan officiating.
