INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County invites the community’s canines to participate in its annual All-American Mutt Show. The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. and will take place during the shelter’s Howl-O-Ween event.
Since the Mutt Show will have walk-in registration, all mutts and their families should arrive at the shelter to sign up by noon. Registration for the Mutt Show is $10, with funds going directly to helping the shelter care for animals in need.
All other events taking place during the shelter’s Howl-O-Ween event are free of charge.
The Humane Society’s All-American Mutt Show has become a tradition in Indian River County.
The contest categories include: Tinkerbell/Tom Thumb (smallest dog), Paul Bunyon (largest dog), Fairy Tails (best costume), Best Trick, Best Tail Wagger, Mr. or Miss Congeniality and All-American Mutt. All participants will receive ribbons.
Unlike the Westminster Dog Show, The Humane Society’s All-American Mutt Show looks for unique qualities in every dog, from nonconformity of appearance to each canine’s individual “mutt -a-nality”.
The Annual Mutt Show also gives the pet-owning community an opportunity to share some fun with their canine companions.
“The All-American Mutt Show is proof positive that every dog is wonderful,” Humane Society Pet Behavior Coordinator Connie Ellis said.
Canine participants must be current on vaccines, wear a leash and collar and be accompanied by one or more adult human companions. Pedigrees as well as mutts are welcome to participate. Call 388-3331 ext. 19 for more information.
