Mildred “Mim” Van Nuise, 94, Vero Beach

Mildred “Mim” Van Nuise, of Vero Beach, died Oct. 7, 2010.

She was born April 3, 1916 in Arlington, N.J. She was happily married to Richard Carlson for 37 years.

During this time she lived in Cranford, N. J., being an active participant in the Presbyterian Church Cranford, President of Colony Club, and member of the Assorted Nuts Bridge Club for many years.

She also served in many schools functions and the PTA. After the death of her husband in 1977, she came to Vero Beach in 1982 and joined First Presbyterian Church and subsequently became a Deacon and then an Elder.

She was a Life Member of the National Navy League, and was named an Honorary Vice President.

She was also an active member of the Treasure Coast Council. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International Foundation.

In 1984, she married George Reisch. He passed away at age 87 in 1995. A year later in 1996, she married Robert Van Nuise; he passed away in 2006 at age 89.

Mim loved to travel and did that extensively. Mim had many friends and loved them all.

She was an avid reader and loved to entertain. She enjoyed flowers and painting in oils, which were given to her family and friends.

Survivors include sons, Don (Marylou) Carlson, of Montville and Sea Meadows, N.J., Bartley Carlson, of Cranford, N.J.; grandson, Don Carlson Jr., of Clarksville, N.J..; three great-granddaughters; step-son, Robert (Lynne) Van Nuise II, of Kissimmee; step-daughter, Janet (Michael) Coates and husband, of Chucky, Tenn.; and four step-grandsons.

A memorial service will be at First Presbyterian Church, Vero Beach at a later date with Dr. Tim Womack presiding.

Graveside prayers will be in Westifield, N.J.
