Follow the scarecrows to McKee this Halloween

VERO BEACH — Last Halloween, more than 500 ghouls, goblins and princesses roamed McKee Botanical Garden to view “Return of the Dinosaur Invasion” and search for candy down flickering jungle pathways.  This year, trick-or-treaters will be met not by dinosaurs, but by a Garden full of scarecrows!  “Trick-or-Treat at McKee BOOtanical Garden” takes place on Sunday, October 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature dozens of creative scarecrows decorated by members and volunteers, a live wicked witch, glowing jack-o’-lanterns and sweet treats.

“With its looming trees and winding trails, McKee is a Halloween destination unlike any other,” explained Executive Director Christine Hobart.  “Our trick-or-treat event grows in popularity every year, but it’s still one of the area’s best-kept secrets.”

Visitors to McKee on Halloween can expect more treats than tricks, with costumed volunteers stationed throughout the Garden passing out candy.  A wicked witch also will preside over games and activities – including a “Little Beauty Shop of Horrors,” bean bag toss and more – in the historic Hall of Giants.

Trick-or-Treat at McKee BOOtanical Garden is sponsored by the AT&T Real Yellow Pages.  General admission fees apply:  $9 adults, $8 seniors and $5 children ages 3 to 12; admission is free for members and children under 3.

The mission of McKee Botanical Garden is to nurture and enhance a historic garden in a unique tropical setting for the education, enjoyment and enrichment of all.
