Mildred Van Valkenburg Demartini, 89, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the VNA Hospice in Vero Beach.
Born on Oct. 4, 1920, in Huntington, N.Y., she was the beloved daughter of Edith and Edward Van Valkenburg of Bayville, N.Y. After residing in Englewood, N.J. for 34 years, she and her husband retired to Vero Beach in 1988 and have been living at Oak Harbor for the past six years.
Mildred graduated from Oyster Bay High School and Colby College where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a member of the American Association of University Women. A Silver Life Master, she was an avid supporter of the Vero Beach Duplicate Bridge Club.
Survivors include her devoted husband of nearly 67 years, Dr. Felix E. Demartini; her sons, Felix E. (Wendy) Demartini Jr., of Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich., Drs. Paul D. (Bette) Demartini, of Westport, Conn.; and her daughter, Lisa D. (Charles) Ogburn, of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private service later this fall. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, contributions can be made in her name to the Indian River Medical Center Foundation, 1000 36th St., Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
