VERO BEACH — To celebrate Family History Month this October, the Indian River County Historical Society is offering a free program, “Family History Day at the Hallstrom House” on Saturday, October 16 from 9 am to noon. The program, which is co-sponsored by the Indian River Genealogical Society, will include three presentations, followed by light refreshments.
Members of the Indian River Genealogical Society will describe resources available for getting started in genealogical research, including online tools as well as IRGS programs and workshops and the Indian River County Library Archive. Folklorist Barbara Bogart will discuss how family stories and oral traditions can shed light on family history and family values. Genealogist Diane Macgowan will demonstrate how using primary sources such as personal letters and financial records can be used to build a richer picture of family history and family life.
The program will be held at the Hallstrom House, 1723 Old Dixie Highway SW in Vero Beach. There is no charge for the program, but reservations are required as seating is limited. For reservations or for more information, contact the Indian River County Historical Society at 772/778-3435 or indianriverhisto@bellsouth.net.
