MERRITT ISLAND — St. Edward’s traveled to Merritt Island Christian Friday night seeking a third straight victory.
Coming off an impressive win over Carrollwood Day, St. Edward’s continued their dominance on offense, winning over Merritt Island 42-20. In the first quarter alone, St. Edward’s scored four touchdowns. Running back Jamari Williams had a 1-yard touchdown just five minutes into the quarter.
One minute later, quarterback Collier Proctor completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Kollin Kite.
With 2:07 left in the quarter, Proctor found Devon Kahle for a 19-yard touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, St. Edward’s lead 28-0.
There was no scoring in the second quarter until Jamari Williams found the end zone on a 9-yard run with only 30 seconds left before half time.
In the third quarter, Proctor found JD McGee for a 42-touchdown pass with 9:16 left in the quarter. At the end of the third quarter, St. Edward’s was still posting a shutout, 42-0. Merritt Island Christian finally got on the board in the fourth quarter.
Only 22 seconds into the fourth quarter, Justin Cowart had a 13-yard touchdown run. With 4:06 left in the quarter, running back Chance Rawls had a 14-yard touchdown run.
To the end the game, quarterback Garrett Sowards found Chance Rawls for a 6-yard touchdown pass.
St. Edward’s won the game, 42-20.
St. Edward’s offense never punted the ball.
“We had success moving the ball. Proctor was never pressured on offense. We never found ourselves in a position where we needed to punt,” Coach Bill Motta said.
St. Edward’s quarterback Collier Proctor was eight for 10 for 177 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Jamari Williams had seven carries for 40 yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Devon Kahle had three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.
St. Edward’s defense had two interceptions and forced four fumbles, recovering one of them.
