Humane Society to close on Sundays

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County will no longer be open on Sundays, beginning Sept. 19.

The shelter’s Adoption and Receiving buildings will be closed to the public on Sundays, though the public can still bring in distressed or lost animals by calling the Humane Society’s emergency line first. “Sunday is one of our slowest days for animal adoptions and animal surrenders. We believe our new evening hours will allow us to help a greater number of Indian River County residents and their animals,” Humane Society Executive Director Chalmers Morse said.

The Adoption Building will be open from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The shelter’s Receiving Building, which accepts lost and surrendered animals, will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The emergency phone number, (772) 388-4592, is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is also posted on the Humane Society’s front gate.

“Animal care and protection at our shelter and in the community is our first priority and will not be impacted by our change in hours,” Morse said.

The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the animals of Indian River County. The shelter is located at 6230 77th Street, Vero Beach.

For more information, the public is encouraged to call (772) 388-3331 or visit the shelter’s website www.hsvb.org.
