INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A woman lost at least $5,000 after deputies said a suspect cashed a check from the woman's bank account. The woman told deputies she thinks the checks were taken from her apartment in the last few weeks, reports show. The woman said she regularly has a housekeeper, rug cleaner and contractors in and out of her home. Deputies spoke with the woman by phone about 8:30 a.m. Monday. The woman said her personal banker at CBC National Bank called and told her about fraud being committed on her checking account. The Scholarship Committee which consists of Susan Sniffen, Juanita Baker, Josephine Gallo, Elsie Visel and Valerie George, makes its annual awards based on academic standing as well as extracurricular activities, career goals and a commitment to democratic ideals.
