VERO BEACH — On Saturday, September 4, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office will be holding their annual “Gifts of Generosity” Charity Inshore Tournament, sanctioned by the 2010 Florida Flatsfishing Association. On Friday, September 3 there is a mandatory angler’s registration meeting from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Loggerhead Club and Marina located in Grand Harbor of Vero Beach. The team registration is $50 per adult (two-adult team mandatory per boat), with the team fishing for their single biggest Spotted Sea Trout and Redfish. Junior anglers, they are allowed to participate in the tournament free as a third member of the team. One hundred percent of all monies collected from registration will go to the IRC Sheriff’s Office Gifts of Generosity fund. The fund was created to help individuals and families in the community who are attempting to better their lives but have hit a “hurdle” that is difficult to surpass, with a one-time donation.
Participating angles will have a chance to win some fantastic prizes for their efforts in the tournament. The team that brings in the heaviest combined weight of one Spotted Sea Trout and one Redfish will win a weekend for two at the Abaco Beach Resort at Boat Harbour in the Bahamas.
Each first place team in the trout and redfish category will win a long weekend for four in a fully furnished vacation house located in the Florida Keys, sponsored by Seahunter Boats in Miami.
Second place teams in the trout and redfish categories take home two trout and two redfish prints, donated by local marine artist Don Ray. Don will be at the team registration on Friday night for pictures and to sign and personalize your artwork of his, whether newly or previously purchased.
Third place teams in the trout and redfish categories will win a $125 store card donated by Back Country and one $125.00 service certificate donated by Boats-N-Motors, both in Vero Beach.
Kids will be fishing for Jack Crevalle and Ladyfish, with the Florida Flatsfishing Association donating 1st, 2nd & 3rd place trophies for the junior angler species. Best of all, kids are listed as part of the team and also eligible to catch the winning trout and redfish for their team in this tournament.
