Ruth I. Lietz, 83, Vero Beach

Ruth I. Lietz, 83, of Vero Beach, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

Lietz was born July 15, 1927 in Oklahoma and moved to Vero Beach one year ago from Franklin Park, Ill. She worked in the office at the East Leyden High School in Franklin Park and was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Bensenville, Ill.

Survivors include her sons David Lietz, of Vero Beach, Ron Lietz, of St. Charles, Ill and Gil Lietz, of Carol Stream, Ill; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Lietz.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council.
