VERO BEACH — A Vero Beach man was arrested, accused of forging more than $1,000 in his uncle’s checks and ringing up nearly $500 in debit card purchases.The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ryan Keith Denning, 22, of the 1700 block of 14th Ave. SW, in Vero Beach, on Aug. 25. He faces charges of organized fraud, uttering a forged instrument, and forgery. Denning is being held at the county jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Denning’s uncle noticed that checks were missing from his business check book and, initially, he did not want to press charges against the nephew.
However, after the uncle discovered more unauthorized transactions, he decided to alert authorities, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The checks Denning is accused of forging were written payable to him in amounts ranging from $65 to $350 in May and July.
The debit purchases included several charges to Netflix, Verizon, Apple iTunes, and Domino’s Pizza and ranged from $1 to $49.95.
