VERO BEACH — This year’s annual Jake Owen Concert, always an exciting feature of the annual Mardy’s Tennis & Jake’s Music Fest to Benefit the Mardy Fish Foundation, is making a move to historic Holman Stadium on Friday, December 10. Owen, a hometown favorite and RCA Nashville recording artist, has sold-out his previous four concerts in Vero Beach, prompting a move to the larger outdoor venue which will better accommodate the growing support from Vero Beach and neighboring communities. The historic Holman Stadium was a past home of the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers and has hosted top entertainers such as Vince Gill and Kenny Rogers.
Owen is a Grammy, CMA, ACM and CMT award-nominated artist who was named the 2009 Top New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music. Following the success of his debut album, Startin’ with Me, Owen’s Easy Does It released in 2009 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Owen will be joined at this year’s concert by additional country artists to be announced soon.
The Event weekend kicks-off on Friday, December 10 with a Kids’ Tennis Clinic at Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club, followed by the Jake Owen Concert. The Event continues on Saturday, December 11 with a Luncheon that includes a live and silent auction and a Tennis Exhibition at Grand Harbor featuring event host Mardy Fish, who will be joined by current and/or former touring tennis professionals in a singles and doubles match.
Fish created the Mardy Fish Foundation to support youth organizations in Indian River County and opened the Pelican Island Elementary School/Mardy Fish Music Club and Health & Fitness Club in September 2007. The Foundation has also funded after-school programs at J.A. Thompson, Glendale, Citrus, Sebastian and Vero Beach Elementary Schools and will launch similar programs at Treasure Coast, Liberty Magnet, Fellsmere and Dodgertown Elementary Schools.
The Foundation also initiated Mardy’s Kids on Courts, a five-week tennis program for children ages 7-12 that focuses on match play and instruction and continues to support organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs and Youth Guidance.
Fish, currently ranked No. 21, won back-to-back titles for the first time in his career at Newport and Atlanta this summer. The winner of five singles and eight doubles titles on the ATP tour, Fish also reached the Cincinnati final this summer, losing to Roger Federer in three sets.
Tennis exhibition tickets are $75 for box seats and $35 for general admission tickets.
