Brian James Nolan, 55, died Aug. 17, 2010, at Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando.
He was born in Mountainside, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach for 36 years, coming from his birthplace.
Before retirement in 2006, he served with the Indian River Shores Public Safety Department for 27 years. At the time of his death, he was the fire marshal/Indian River County Emergency Management coordinator.
He was president of the Treasure Coast Fire Chiefs Association and a member of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association.
He was a graduate of Governor Livingston High School, Berkeley Heights, N.J.
Survivors include his sons, Brian Nolan Jr., of Jensen Beach, and Joseph Nolan, of Vero Beach; daughter, Katherine Nolan, of Vero Beach; brother, Edward J. Nolan Jr., of Santa Fe, N.M.; sisters, Patty Henderson, of Horse Shoe, N.C., and LaVerne Mazur, of Tulsa, Okla.; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 21 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
